Why the referendum for legalization in New Zealand is important?

For those who are not already aware, New Zealanders are heading towards a big decision that will be a pivot point for the entire global cannabis landscape – the New Zealand cannabis referendum. On October 17th, 2020, they will decide if they are in favour or against the legalization of cannabis on the islands. This bill will allow people to possess and consume cannabis in limited circumstances, opening the country to a gigantic boost in its economy.

Some will ask, why is this such a big game-changer? The act of the New Zealand cannabis referendum will bring about a wave of improvement in the very livelihood of the Kiwis. Legalization means providing regulated access to good quality and potent strains of cannabis while balancing it with measures to control its exposure to the young and raising awareness on the health risks associated with cannabis use. Not to mention, taxes and new jobs!

New Zealand is documented to be the first country in the world to put the legalization of recreational cannabis to a national public vote and could become the third country to legalize it in full after Uruguay & Canada.

We are proud to have partnered with Stephen McDowell from The Buzzy Kiwi for the CanMar Global Conference & Expo 2020. This virtual event will bring together thought leaders, knowledge brokers, industry trendsetters, job seekers and businesses from October 23rd to 25th. A virtual hub of Education, Careers and Development, one of its kind in the cannabis community. With the event scheduled after the referendum, and a week after Canada celebrates 2 years of legalization, it will be the perfect space to come together and explore the journey from legacy to legalization, what is the current state and where are we headed. Exploring all this from the point of view of patients, athletes, entrepreneurs, and firms. Join us!
